4.2 Assigning Safety Training Requirements #
The CSP is split into many topics (chapters), which may or may not apply to individual units. Which chapters apply to each unit depends on the activities of the unit, the locations where the unit operates, and the equipment and materials the unit uses in its operations.
The first four chapters (chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4) of the CSP apply to all units that fall under the scope of the CSP (see section 1.2 for the scope of the CSP). Units that have a laboratory, fall under the Research Safety sections of chapter 9. Units that use hazardous chemicals, but not in a laboratory, must follow chapters 5, 6, 7 and 8.
Chapters 10 and above, apply to units that have additional hazards, conduct certain hazardous activities, or have certain hazardous work locations. Listed below is a flowchart and above in the Related Documents header is a Training Matrix to better help units decide which chapters of the CSP apply to them. For additional help deciding which CSP chapters apply to your unit, contact EHS.
