Worker safety is a process that involves the worker, their supervisor, and Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) staff.
Worker safety is a process that involves the worker, their supervisor, and Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) staff. You must be able to:
- Understand the risks of the job you are performing
- Receive the appropriate training and safety equipment for the job
- Follow the guidelines and policies developed to help ensure your safety
- Report any concerns or near misses to your supervisors and EHS staff
You may contact EHS at any time with questions about:
- Workplace risks
- Injury and illness prevention
- Safety and health concerns or complaints
- Workplace safety training
EHS also manages the following programs to ensure employees have the appropriate information and equipment needed to be safe at work:
- Hazard Communication
- Safety Equipment
- Respirators
- Safety Shoes
- Prescription safety eyeglasses
- Medical Surveillance
- Ergonomics

Reporting a Work-Related Incident
Prior to reporting an incident, if needed, seek medical attention first. If someone is experiencing a serious or life threatening injury or illness:
- Call 911
- Seek medical care at the U-M ER
Personnel experiencing a non-life threatening issue should visit:
- Occupational Health Services during business hours (appointment required)
- University of Michigan Health System ER after business hours and on weekends
All incidents that result in injury or illnesses MUST be reported to Work Connections using the Work Connections Illness or Injury Report Form.
