MISP Worker Registration – Now Live!

EHS is pleased to announce the newest enhancement to the MI Safety Portal is now live for MISP users. This module is available to all Lab/Shop/Studio Directors and their designated MISP Coordinator(s) (i.e., Lab Managers, Safety Officer).

Labs/Shops/Studios are now able to add and remove workers who have access to their MISP permit directly within the system. This enhancement provides groups with the ability to:

  • Track worker training
  • Conduct and view lab self-inspections
  • Review chemical inventory
  • Print door signage
  • Digitally sign SOPs and other laboratory documents

All pending registrations are sent to EHS for approval. Once the changes are approved, an automatic email is sent to the new user, as well as the PI to whom the employee is attached.

This new functionality adds flexibility and improves oversight of safety compliance within your space. Look for this new feature on your MISP homepage.

EHS hosted a recent Town Hall in which details of the new module and its benefits were provided. See the link below to view the recording of the webinar. A user help guide and FAQ document can also be found below.

Restricted Gas Requests now in MISP

Effective today, the Google form previously used for restricted gas requests has been archived and all requests will be processed through the Chemical Requisitions function in the MI Safety Portal. This new function can be accessed by registered MISP users via the Chemical Inventory module.

U-M’s Restricted Hazardous Gas Policy is unchanged by the new form location. The following hazardous gasses, in cylinder sizes larger than a lecture bottle (size LB), are included in this policy:

  • carbon monoxide,
  • flammable gasses (e.g. hydrogen)
  • corrosive gasses (e.g. ammonia)
  • oxidizing gasses (e.g. liquid oxygen, oxygen >25%,  nitrous oxide, chlorine, fluorine)
  • pyrophoric gasses (e.g. arsine, disilane, diborane, germane, phosphine, silane)
  • toxic and highly toxic gasses per NFPA 55

This new feature introduces the ability to directly add new gas purchases to your lab’s chemical inventory upon receipt. See the MISP help document below for additional details and instructions on using the Chemical Requisitions module.
