Lab Modifications
As research protocols advance, lab directors—whether faculty, lab managers, or supervisors—may find that modifications to their lab space must be made to meet the requirements of the new protocols. If you find it necessary to modify your existing lab setup or convert an office into a laboratory, whether it’s installing a sink, reconfiguring the room layout, or adding new equipment, please ensure you complete the Laboratory Space Modification Form
Answer the questions in the form related to the proposed modifications to existing lab space or a non laboratory space destined to become a laboratory, including changes related to animal housing, new equipment, operations, chemicals, biological, and radiological hazards.
This form will help Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) and Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) determine the codes, regulations, and guidelines the University of Michigan (U-M) must meet to be in compliance. This form should be completed as soon as possible in the pre-design process before initiating work. It will help determine if any of the proposed changes require additional review(s), support or consultation to ensure that the space meets all applicable codes, standards, regulations, and guidelines.
After receiving your submission, EHS, Plant, or AEC (as applicable) will schedule a consulting visit or call to further discuss these proposed modifications.
