Lead

Lead-based paint was used in many buildings on campus, including residential, that were painted with paints manufactured before 1978.  University of Michigan (U-M) is very committed to properly managing any lead-based paint to prevent exposure to staff, faculty, students, and members of the community.

For residential areas, the U-M must comply with EPA disclosure requirements.  Refer to University Housing for more information on how lead based paint is managed in residential settings.

All work affecting lead-based painted coatings and other materials that may contain lead are covered in the Lead Management Program.

For questions or concerns regarding lead-based paint or other lead-based surface coatings, contact Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) at (734) 647-1143.
